Thumbelina Retelling

Thumbelina Retelling

Chapter1

A little old lady wanted a little girl. She heard of someone who could give you a baby so she went to her.  She got a seed and planted it in a pot. A flower grew and grew. The flower opened. A girl hopped out and said “HI”
She was as tiny as the old lady’s thumb so she called her Thumbelina.
A toad came and said, “What beautiful singing. You will make a good bride for my son the frog.”
So the toad set off to where she lived, putting Thumbelina on a lily pad saying “I’ll just go get him.”
Thumbelina saw some fish and said “Help me”
Chapter 2
So the fish gnawed and gnawed the stalk all day. The stalk finally snapped in 2 and Thumbelina said “Thank you.”
She saw a beautiful butterfly and followed it to a pleasant wood where she made friends with the butterflies. Thumbelina was happy in the woods eating berries and playing with her friends. When the days grew colder and colder it was harder to find food. The butterflies went to hibernate for the winter.
Chapter 3
One winter’s day Thumbelina met a field mouse beside her house.
“I am so hungry. Can you help me?” said Thumbelina.
The mouse took pity on the girl and said “Would you like to stay with me and share my food?”
“Thank you.” said Thumbelina
Chapter 4

Thumbelina lived with the field mouse happily but one day the mouse said
“Sorry but you will have to go live with my friend mole because I won’t have any food left if you stay. Mole will look after you. Why don’t you marry him? He has a much bigger house.”
Thumbelina did not want to marry the mole because she would not see the outside world.
Chapter 5
“Come Thumbelina.” said Mole. “But watch out for that dead bird.”
Thumbelina looked at the bird properly and it wasn’t dead. Thumbelina looked after it all winter long and he finally was ok to fly. So he left.
Thumbelina had to marry the mole.
On the day the swallow said, “Jump on my back and I will take you to a place that will never rain. “
That place had little people too and Thumbelina got married.

Thumbelina

An old lady got given a tiny little seed. She said “Thank you.” Tiny, beautiful, delicate, fabulous Thumbelina hatched out of a flower. Thumbelina was beautiful but tiny and the woman loved Thumbelina and cared for her.

One day a toad stole Thumbelina so she could marry her son. Luckily, little as a dot, cute fish saved her from the frog.

Winter came and Thumbelina was cold but then a mouse was just about to go into her house.
Thumbelina said, “Can I stay with you?”

“Yes you can.” The mouse gave Thumbelina food for a while then mouse said, “You need to go live with the mole because my house is too small to fit you.”

Thumbelina did not want to go live underground with the mole.
The mole said, “Watch out! There is a dead bird in the tunnel.”
Thumbelina helped the sick swallow.

In the summer Thumbelina looked at the sky for the last time crying with tears. She saw a flock of birds flying above Thumbelina and then she saw a bird swoop down. It was the swallow.

The swallow took Thumbelina to a lovely, beautiful fabulous, amazing and awesome summer palace and Thumbelina met the flower people. And the flower people called Thumbelina Maia.
Maia married the prince and they all lived happily ever after.

Thumbelina
Once upon a time there was a woman who wanted to have a little girl of her own to love and care for. As time passed and she had no children she became very sad.
Then one day she heard of a wise old woman who could help and she went.
The old woman gave the woman a sunflower seed and the woman went home and planted it. A little girl came out of it.
Thumbelina got caught by an ugly toad. The little fish saved her. Then she saw a mouse.
She said, “Do you want to marry the mole?”
Thumbelina said, “No, no, no!”
The mole said, “Look out for that dead bird.”
Thumbelina saw it wasn’t dead and the bird was alive and the bird was a swallow.
The swallow took Thumbelina to flower land where her real home was. She got married to a handsome prince and they lived happily ever after.

Thumbelina
Once upon a time a woman was very sad. She longed to have a little girl. She went to a friend who gave her a flowerpot. Thumbelina jumped out of the flower.
One day Thumbelina was singing by the fence when an along came a frog and kidnapped her. He went to the river and put her on a lily pad. Thumbelina told the fish and they broke the vine.
A few days later Thumbelina met a mouse. Thumbelina said, “I am very hungry and thirsty.”
Suddenly one day, the mouse said, ”You have to go next door and live with mole.” So she went next door and mole was waiting outside his hole.
When she went in she saw a swallow. He was very cold and hungry. So the little girl looked after the bird until the summer time.
A few months later it was winter. The swallow came back and said, “Come with me to another country.”
She met a boy and they kissed and they all lived happily ever after.
